As a victim advocate who is trauma informed, I am passionate about abuse prevention education for children.
My career journey began as a hairstylist (yes, you read that right) where the salon industry provided a unique network and opportunity to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Over time, I discovered that clients would often share some of their most painful childhood memories, revealing the enduring impact early abuse had on their lives.
There was an undeniable pattern I couldn’t ignore while listening to people and getting to know them at each appointment over time. A pattern that later fueled my determination to create a non profit and pass HB 4350 (Thanks to state rep. Jed Davis) into law for children in Illinois.
My Body Tells The Truth (MBTTT) is a 501c3 organization which focuses on helping children 4 and up how to identify predators online and in person. Supported by a dedicated team with a wealth of knowledge and a passion for safeguarding children, I envision a world where kids are empowered to distinguish between those of us who can help vs. those who intend to harm. A new kind of prevention awareness initiative proven to arm kids with the tools they need to safeguard against the dangers of predators.
With 22 years of marriage inside the first responder community to a firefighter/investigator, this culture has taught me so much about life behind the scenes and many cases of abuse and trafficking that have gone unnoticed.
I find myself surrounded by groups of humble warriors with “boots on the ground” that make rescuing people an art form. Many of them I’m blessed to call friends and some I consider family.
I’ve never been one to go looking for a job. I’m someone who finds a need and then creates the work. This gift of creativity as an entrepreneur has led me to a career lifestyle where success is a team of stellar human beings that go above and beyond to “Be the change.”
That team includes family who support me and colleagues who recognize that a life of purpose, is a life of fulfillment.
Your monthly donation helps us bring awareness and education to the forefront to prevent human trafficking. Thank you for your contribution in making our communities a safer place for our families.
